Look at this article

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/718359.stm

On top is the article I just read about a country named Mali, that has women that bleach their skin. It damages their skin and inflicts pain to their skin. Maybe it's because they are ebullient to try this, or because they think men find bleached women salacious or that women with bleached skin won't bring a dowry to their marriage. The media is mesmeric, girls that don't embellish their skin are considered second class citizens. In the article they are being salubrious and saying that they shouldn't bleach their skin. I think that too because it can probably cause skin cancer and can make them pallid.

A commercial

That is a video that I watched, it was very powerful for a video that was only 1 minute and twenty seconds long. When I first saw it I didn't know what was happening, then everything started moving. Commercials of what people thought was beauty. My gut feeling? Oh my, those little girls will grow up to be like that? Try that hard to become beautiful no matter what.
The central message of this commercial to me is Beauty on the media and how it would affect future children. In the commercial it showed plastic surgery, cosmetics, make up, and much more. The central idea was to tell parents to talk to their kids about what is beautiful and that they don't need to use anything to be beautiful, as long as they are beautiful inside.

Women in Ancient Greece

At the time of ancient Greece, they were a superior civilization, but they did not treat women as well as men. The difference between women in Athens and Sparta, is that in Athens women were treated as slaves, the highest they could go would be was a prostitute, while in Sparta they had more power, and were trained to learn how to fight.
Ancient Greece treated women very differently from men was because of primitive times in my beliefs. I think that men were born to have more leadership and courage. Also because women hold the baby and breast feed the baby, this may be the very reason because women have a special bond with their child.
I think artists only depicted women in Ancient Greece that were either important, beautiful, or was a goddess.

Socratic seminar

Well today we had a Socratic seminar. We talked about Galileo and Plato's theories and philosophies. It was very interesting, there were many virtues that we thought of and discussed. We tried to think of a universal trait but we could not find one. we discussed about how everything was in the eye of the beholder. There were many good arguements, I wish we had it for a little longer I wanted to discuss more about what I thought.

Some questions I liked to answer

1. What is so beautiful about youth?

When you are young, you still can learn many things, when you grow old you are not capable to do things you could do when you were young. When I was little I could do many things, but now at my age it's harder to learn new things, I don't think I could learn violin like I did when I was little. Or learn a new language as easily. It's much harder to learn Spanish because I just started learning while I learned Mandarin and English when I was very small. Ad another beauty about youth is, you have no wrinkles or bad memory.

2. We know what "perfect" most likely means to Socrates by looking at ancient Greek sculpture and art and drawing inferences, but he doesn't describe this "perfect" human form. What are your thoughts on the idea of a "perfect" human form today? What is it in your culture for men? women? What are your thoughts surrounding those ideals?

Well for men and women, I would think they would be strong, flexible, good faces, and be very intelligent. If you are intelligent you can unlock everything else there is to life. Everyone is intelligent in their own way, that's why people are so diverse. Beauty comes within more than from the outside. If you have beauty within, it will most definitely show on the outside, where people can see and will think of you as a beautiful person.

Examples of What think beauty means

I think this is beautiful to me because, she is new and she has much to learn. She has done nothing and she will do lots when she grows up. So innocent and cute. Inside her she does not know a thing, she is empty but can be filled easily.

Usually When I think of beauty I think of a beautiful girl. This is just an example this is the actor from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Although her personality does not match her beauty, I only meant the outside. This is the beauty I usually think of , something attractive in some way.
